JOB DESCRIPTION
The Family Medicine Department is recruiting a full-time family physician. The successful candidate must agree to provide service coverage (one week at a time) on a rotating basis at the Dr. Georges‑L.‑Dumont University Hospital Centre (UHC) and provide weekend on-call services at the Shediac Regional Medical Centre. The successful candidate must also have an office in the community of Shediac. As well, the successful candidate must participate in primary care services and deliver these services. The services to be assigned will be determined according to predetermined priorities set by the departments of the Dr. Georges-L-Dumont UHC based on patients’ health service needs.  This means that the successful candidate must agree to accept as patients some members of the community who do not have a family physician and who need one on a priority basis due to their medical needs and/or follow-up. For this position, the essential and immediate needs in the community are as follows: the physician must agree to accept as patients up to 75 newborns per year for the next three years.
The successful candidate must provide services to inpatients and participate in the hospitalization program and on call. This position is primarily focused on medical and preventive primary health care in the community. The position may involve providing palliative, geriatric, emergency, obstetrical (at the clinic) and oncology care and care in other fields as well as participating in Surgical Suite on call. The Network expects the physician to participate in training medical students and residents.

Overview of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre (UHC) – The Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC, located in the heart of the City of Moncton, is the lead facility of the Beauséjour Zone (Kent and Southeastern New Brunswick region) of Vitalité Health Network. This 302-bed hospital provides primary, specialized and tertiary (more complex) care using cutting-edge technology. It has over 240 physicians, 2,000 employees and 315 volunteers. It provides services in both official languages. The Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC serves patients from New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. It is a provincial referral centre for its highly specialized services. As a teaching and research hospital, it maintains close ties with a number of the country’s universities and colleges.
Overview of the Regional Health Authority – Vitalité Health Network is one of the two regional health authorities (RHAs) in New Brunswick. The Network is the only Francophone managed organization of its kind in the country and provides services in nearly 70 sites and points of service throughout four health zones covering all of the northern region and part of the southeastern region of the province. Services and care are provided in the official language chosen by the patient and are available at home, in the community or in a facility, according to needs. The range of services includes prevention and health promotion, treatment of illness, rehabilitation, home care and palliative care. Public health, community mental health and addiction services; community health centres; the Extra-Mural Program; and veterans' centres are offered in addition to hospital services to provide a broader range of health care services. The Network is also active in the training and research fields, with these efforts helping to keep employees’ skills up-to-date and to plan for succession. NATURE OF WORK
The position involves clinical work providing general medical care to patients. Duties include medical functions related to the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and may require working closely with various health professionals.  The work, which offers considerable latitude to allow for independent action and judgment, will be reviewed by the head of the department or clinical program to which the physician belongs. The work may also be monitored by the Local and/or Regional Chief of Staff and the Regional Medical Director for the Regional Health Authority (RHA). The physician must abide by the By-Laws of the RHA.
REMUNERATION
Remuneration is based on a fee-for-service model under which New Brunswick Medicare pays fees directly to the medical staff for any service provided.
Remuneration for hospital and emergency services is based on a sessional model with a fixed hourly rate.

FAMILY MEDICINE NEW BRUNSWICK
 
The position may be attached to the Family Medicine New Brunswick (FMNB) model. It is up to the selected physician to opt for FMNB or not.  Being attached to FMNB means that the physician will work with a group of other physicians – an existing group of physicians or a group to be formed with other physicians – and be remunerated under a mixed model involving a lump sum payment per client in combination with fee for service. In addition, the physician will receive help setting up an office in the selected area, will receive free access to the provincial electronic medical record (EMR) system, and will be able to bill for services such as telephone calls to patients.   For further information, visit FMNB.ca.
