Locum Thoracic Surgery Opportunity
The Moncton Hospital, a facility within Horizon Health Network, is looking for a locum Thoracic Surgeon. The department at present consists of five general surgeons, two hepatopancreatobiliary surgeons, two thoracic and two vascular surgeons.
Applicants must be eligible for licensure in New Brunswick and hold subspecialty certification in Thoracic Surgery. Applicants will be expected to deliver appropriate inpatient and outpatient services in the field of Thoracic Surgery and provide on-call coverage in coordination with other members of the Division of Thoracic Surgery as well as participation in the provincial on-call schedule.

The Moncton Hospital is a 386-bed, tertiary and critical care facility within Horizon Health Network. It is a major referral hospital serving communities across New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia. It is a level II Trauma Centre which offers tertiary services in neurosurgery, oncology and neonatal care and includes all other major services and subspecialties. The Department of Family Medicine admits patients not requiring obstetrics, surgery intensive care or acute psychiatric care. The scope of practice includes pediatrics, general medicine and geriatrics with consultant support.
The Moncton Hospital offers excellent opportunities for teaching and clinical research and has academic affiliation with Dalhousie University. The hospital is one of the largest employers within metro Moncton, employing 3,000 staff and physicians.
HOURS OF WORK
- Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- On-call coverage in coordination with the members of the Division
A typical weekly schedule will include:
- Thoracic surgery services
- On-call (if applicable)
- Teaching residents and medical students
Remuneration for the position is based on New Brunswick Medicare’s Alternate Funding Plan for Thoracic Surgery, based on credentials and experience. Financial provision to support the physician’s practice is also available. If one chooses to participate in call for another specialty, they will receive the mandated on-call stipend and fee-for-service billings plus premiums.

QUALIFICATIONS:The Department of General Surgery, specific to its divisions of General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery, requires that its active and courtesy members have passed the examination of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
