Position Description:

Under the direction of the Obstetrics/Gynecology Department the obstetrician/gynecologist focuses on the study of women’s health and reproduction. The specialty encompasses medical, surgical, obstetric and gynecologic knowledge and skills for the prevention, diagnosis and management of a broad range of conditions affecting women’s general and reproductive health. 


Obstetrician/Gynecologists provide health care to women throughout their lifespan, treating conditions that are unique to women and their reproductive processes, including patients with complex pregnancies, fertility and/or infertility and pelvic floor dysfunction, and the gynecologic health of elderly women. In addition, they provide care to patients with cancer who are experiencing issues that affect the reproductive organs or processes.

Job Duties:

       Clinical practice in both obstetrics and gynecology.

       Participation in teaching, medical education, and research as required by the department.

       Commitment to on-call as required by the department.

Remuneration:

Flexible

Physicians are free to negotiate their preferred method of remuneration. For specialties, it varies between fee-for-service or salaried remuneration. For primary care, physicians can choose salary, fee-for-service or the Family Medicine New Brunswick model.

Qualifications:

  • Degree from a recognized medical school and residency leading to licensure in obstetrics/gynecology;
  • A recognized medical school is a school that meets the following criteria:
  • Accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) (in the United States);

OR

  • Listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools with a note for Canada;
  • Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick;
  • Active member of the Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent liability insurance association;
  • Member of the New Brunswick Medical Society;

Incentives:

$100,000.00 accompanied by a 4 year return of service.

Relocation reimbursement available.

About the Facility:

The Upper River Valley Hospital is considered a rural hospital with some surgical services on site. With 47 beds and a 5-bed concentrated care unit, URVH serves a catchment population of approximately 45,000. It is also a training site for the Dalhousie University Family Medicine Program.

Situated west-centrally in New Brunswick is the Upper River Valley, a historic and cultural area that includes a number of vibrant towns and villages, including the Town of Woodstock, the Town of Hartland and the town of Perth-Andover, serving a catchment population of 45,000.
