Position Description:
The Family Physician - Addiction Services provides comprehensive, patient-centred care to individuals with substance use and addiction-related health needs. This is a part-time position compensated on a sessional basis, with scheduling determined collaboratively to meet clinic and physician availability.
The role includes delivery of both in-person and virtual care, working closely with an interdisciplinary team to support treatment, recovery, and continuity of care. The physician participates in clinical care, teaching, quality improvement, and departmental activities, contributing to a collaborative and evidence-based practice environment aligned with Horizon Health Network’s mission and values.
Responsibilities include clinical service delivery, participation in departmental and hospital committees, teaching learners and peers as appropriate, and on-call coverage (remote with rare on-site backup), in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Job Duties:
• Provide both in-person and virtual patient care, utilizing the Intra-health system for virtual visits.
• Scheduling vacation/absences will be determined with the group which will have responsibility to maintain ongoing coverage.
• Teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students.
• Teaching responsibilities for nursing and peers as appropriate.
• Participate in departmental meetings, Medical Quality Improvement Committee, and other appropriate family practice and hospital committees.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address staff and patient education needs.
• Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.
• Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.
• Adhere to call responsibilities remotely as defined by the department. Physician would ensure physical back-up for the rare on-site requirement. On-call response time is 10 minutes to answer your pager and be accessible to attend at the bedside within 30 minutes, unless alternative arrangements are defined by the department Rules.
• Participate in the medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority’s mission, values and strategic directions.
• Within the confines of this scope of practice and position description, provide other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be required by the Head of the Department of Family Medicine, the Chief of Staff and/or Medical Director.
Remuneration:
Sessional
Remuneration is by a sessional rate arrangement as outlined in the New Brunswick Physicians’ Manual. No source deductions can be provided.
Qualifications:
• Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick.
• Must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
• Must have current malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), or equivalent, appropriate to the category of practice.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
• Good attendance and work record.
• Physically able to perform assigned duties.

Other Requirements:
• Comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of Family Medicine.
• Comply with the provisions of the Hospital Act, the Regional Health Authorities Act, and their regulations.
• Comply with the Health Authority bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures.
• Follow the Code of Ethics of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
